A new weapon

Postby BigBadBarl on Thu Mar 06, 2008 9:14 pm

Howdy all, Andy here. A new guy. Tall, blond, short-tempered, shaggy hair, etc. Anyways, I had a question. I would really like to see a katar or two (or four =D) in medieval combat club. A katar, for those who don't know, is a dagger-type weapon from India, used mostly in assassinations. Image
That is it, right there. Now, my only problem is, I have as much experience with foam-smithing as I do with Korean-speaking salespeople (none), and I was wondering if anybody could help me make this bad boy work! I feel my combat prowess would be increased by at least 30% if I could make a reliable weapon of this type.

So, if anybody has any ideas or tips, please, I'm all ears. And don't be afraid to post the basics...every little bit helps!

This site has some general basic instruction for weapon building.

http://www.angelfire.com/realm2/alcon/construction.html

I have not found any 'katar-specific' instruction.

It's construction would really be like our current daggers, but with a modified handle, right?

The only question is, how would we make such a handle? Are there any punch-type weapons?

I think PVC pipping could be used to make the basic frame of the weapon. You would then build the weapon up from there in the usual fashion, with two exceptions for safety's sake. First, I think you would need to reinforce the tip because this is going to predominantly be a green weapon. Second, you would need to add some padding to the handle area - this is known as curtesy padding.
